As you may have heard, USA Hockey announced last week that there will be a 2020-2021 youth hockey season. While this is great news, there is, unfortunately, no clear path to getting our players on the ice. The burden of setting guidelines for returning to the rinks lies with the individual states. NYSAHA President, Joe Baudo, has petitioned the New York State committee responsible for the reopening youth sports in hopes of gaining some insight into the guidelines and procedures we will need to comply with. As of right now, we are still not permitted to hold tryouts, have scrimmages, or engage in competitive team activities.
While we need to wait for the proverbial “green” light from NYSAHA to hold those activities, we are permitted to hold skills related activities within the guidelines set out by NY State. We are currently formulating our plan for these activities and for securing ice once the season opens, whenever that may be. We need to firm up the numbers of kids that may be involved so that we can understand how many ice slots will be required. To help us do this the IYHA board is asking that you register your player(s) with a $50 registration deposit regardless of your player’s anticipated level of play. This deposit will be applied to your full season registration fee which we will invoice you for based on your players team placement. Please contact a board member if this fee presents a financial hardship for your family.
Our next board meeting will be held on Monday, September 14th at 7pm virtually. All are welcome to attend, contact any member of the board for the connection information.
