The Ithaca PeeWee travel hockey team advanced to the New
York State Hockey Association finals in Saratoga over the weekend, sweeping
the sectional finals with a 4-0 record in Lysander. Ithaca is the first team
to win nine straight games in presectionals and sectionals.
On Friday, Ithaca defeated New Hartford 9-1. A.J. Fiore scored three goals,
Conor Stokes and Matt Carpenter each had two, while Kyle Seyler and Jess
Esposito each had one. Tyler Trueman and Ben Shulman split time in goal.
Saturday, Ithaca won twice, defeating Oswego 5-1 and Binghamton 6-1.
Against Oswego, Craig Esposito scored twice with single goals going to
Carpenter, Fiore and Jess Esposito. In the win against Binghamton, Stokes had
three goals, Jess Esposito scored twice and Fiore had one. Trueman was in goal
for both games.
Ithaca finished the tournament with a win on Sunday. Stokes had another hat
trick, while Fiore and Max Addy also scored and Shulman played in goal.
Other team members are: T.J. Cretney, Cody Fisk, Colby Gee, Zach Hughes,
Christian Shaw, Tyler St. Denis, Torin Varn and Robbie Young. The team is
coached by Earl Carpenter, Terry Fisk, Wayne Stokes and Tom VanNederyen and
managed by Laura Fiore.
The finals are set for March 12-14 in Saratoga. Ithaca will be the No. 1
seed from the 12-team Central Section Northeast Division PeeWee Tier II.
